Big thanks to my family for making this day special to me. I was treated like a princess from early in the morning. That day Daniella woke up early – at 6.30am. I fed her and normally she would go back to sleep. I did, but Daniella didn’t. I didn’t even hear when Edward woke up, took Daniella and went to another room. I was woken up at 9.30am, by lovely smell of pancakes coming from the kitchen. Went to see what is going on there and was greeted by sweet kisses from Edward and Luka. And flowers, and cards. I wanted to help Edward to prepare breakfast, but he wouldn’t let me to. I was sited down and told to relax.
Breakfast was amazing. My man is very good at cooking. We had pancakes with apples, yogurt and honey. Yummy!
In the evening we were expecting for Edwards Mummy and brother to arrive, so we had to do some house work and preparations. We went for small shopping and waited for family to arrive. I decorated the table, Edward was busy with the food, was great to do things together.
Evening was warm and cozy. Edwards Mum was excited to see Daniella after two months holiday in Philippines. Daniella looked very excited too. We gave some flowers, card and sweets to Mum (I should have bought a present from myself for bringing such a wonderful son). It was the most beautiful and warm mothers day I have ever had. From early in the morning, till late in the evening. I could not be more thankful for having these wonderful people in my world. Blessed.
Happy 5 month old our little angel. Once again, time flies… Daniella is becoming more and more active, more aware of what is going on around.
Our biggest milestone was at the beginning of this month when Daniella rolled from her back to belly. After she realised she can do it, I could not enjoy peace and quiet no more. 🙂
Our blue chair is not in use anymore. Daniella refuses to sit there. We recently bought Siesta highchair from Mamas & Papas, Daniella happily stays in that one.
Daniella can sit for a short amount of time without any assistance. She is becoming stronger day by day. Our baby also tries to stand up very hard. I think her legs are very strong. She is very confident when standing. Is she gonna start walking before she learns sitting? 🙂
Our angel still sleeps 3 to 4 times a day. Goes to bed for a night sleep at 9.30pm. Still falls asleep on her own. At night, however, she now wakes up at 5am or 6am for a feed. But eats for about 5 minutes and falls asleep straight away again. There were three nights in a row that after waking up at 5am she was very playful and didn’t feel like sleeping no more. That was pretty hard, as I like my sleep, but had to play with Daniella then. Thanks God after those three nights all got back to normal. Daniella wakes up at 8am, stays up for an hour or so and goes back to sleep for normally nearly 3 hrs again.
No teeth yet. But I swear, they are so near! I can see changes on her gums, it is a bit swollen and white on the sides and at the top. Daniella bites everything she can reach. She also cries sometimes pretty hard, but as soon as I give her medicines for teething, she stops. We use Anbesol Liquid, I think it is pretty good so far.
Daniella loves going outside. She normally falls asleep in her buggy and can sleep for hours in a fresh air. We started to use sitting part of the pram recently. I found it more confortable when going outside. Daniella can look around if not sleeping.
We are introducing Daniella with solid foods little by little. She seems to be picky baby – doesn’t like sour foods and loves sweet. But her main and favorite food is still mummy’s milk.
Probably one of the most exciting things while waiting for a baby is buying all new stuff, preparing your home, washing and folding mini clothes for your little one. Here I have decided to write about some of the things that we bought for our little one and how useful or useless they were after Daniella’s arrival.
I would like to start with probably one of our most successful buys – Oyster Travel System
. We were choosing between Quinny, ICandy and Oyster. We bought Oyster as it looked very lightweight, compact, easy fold able and small. I am so happy with this purchase. It’s nice to go shopping, as it is very easy to maneuver in between the shelves. I feel so sorry for other moms that I see with their huge ‘posh’ prams. They are struggling big time in shops.
We didn’t buy Moses Basket, as we didn’t think it was necessary. And I really don’t miss it at all. during the day Daniella sleeps in her pram, so I can rock her a bit if necessary. I find it really handy!
However, Oyster pram is pretty hard if the road is not smooth. But it is really not too bad. I think I would buy the same buggy again for another baby. 🙂
Maxi Cosi Cabrio Fix
Baby Car Seat was a gift from Daniella’s grandparents. Nice color (red) and looks very comfortable. Pretty lightweight and easy to install in a car. For us it worked really well, as we could attach this on our pram too as a part of Travel System. Daniella seems to love it. Definitely would use this again!
Daniella’s cot is Bibi Cot from Mamas & Papas
. She sleeps there only at night. I am loving this cot. It’s not huge and very cute. One little minus – it is not possible to slide it’s side wall down. But it is really not a big thing. Loving the size and white color. 🙂
The music toy
for a cot Daniella received from my sister’s Jolita’s family on their first visit. It is also from Mamas & Papas. I am loving its’ neutral colors, so whatever color babys’ duvet will be, it will still be matching the toy. Daniella likes listening to its soft melody and tries retching cute toys. 🙂
Daniella’s Star-lite Swing Once Upon a Time
is also from Mamas & Papas. It only depends to Daniellas mood whether she likes or not. But most of the time she falls asleep happily in it while listening to a soft music or watching cute blinking lights on the top of the swing. Would buy this again. Saves some time- batteries do all job here. 🙂
I think one of the best ideas was not to buy changing table for Daniella. At the beginning we were looking for one, but they looked so basic or plasticky (and the price is pretty high for what you get). So we came up with another idea. We bought a chest of drawers, put changing mattress on the top (glued it with two sided stickers, so it is not sliding around) and used this as a changing table. I could not be happier with the result! Looking nice, plenty of space for baby’s clothes, cosmetic, etc…
Daniella’s famous blue chair (bouncer) was a life saver since just after Daniella’s birth till nearly five months old. Edwards colleagues gave it to us as a gift. Daniella was always happily lying in it. We used to always take it with us when going to visit family or friends to their houses. Daniella loved it, we loved it. Pity, babies grow out of those cute things so fast… 🙂
A cosy nest for newborns and a comfortable cushion support for babies. We received it from my cousin when he came to visit Daniella. Unfortunately I realised a little too late that it can be used for newborns as a nest. However, it is pretty handy to have it now, when Daniella starts learning to sit by herself.
What is mastitis?
Mastitis is a condition that causes a woman’s breast tissue to become painful and inflamed. It is most common in breastfeeding women. It usually develops in first three months after giving birth. If you have it, you will notice that areas of your breasts are red, hard, swollen, sore, hot.You would also have flu symptoms- high temperature, aches and chills.
What causes mastitis?
Mastitis is caused by milk remaining in milk tissue. When your baby isn’t emptying your breasts well when feeding.
In my case I first had mastitis when Daniella was less than a month old. Had a little pain in one of my breasts the day before and woke up with a high temperature the day after. It was terrible. My breast was hurting a lot, I couldn’t lie on that side at all. Temperature was 39 and more and I was feeling cold as never before. Had at least five blankets on me and still could not get worm. In a mean time had to take care of Daniella – Edward was working. It was extremely painful when I had to feed my baby. Could not eat, could not move.
How can I treat mastitis?
I really didn’t want to go to doctors. Didn’t want to take antibiotics. Wanted to carry on feeding my baby. So I did. I was breastfeeding Daniella from infected side as often as she wanted. In between the feeds I was expressing the milk out till my breast was completely empty. Till it was nearly hurting. While feeding or expressing milk it is also good to massage a sore place.
I have also found that hot compresses could help, but I didn’t have enough energy to make these. However, I was drinking a lot of tea because of my temperature. So while the tea was still hot in my cup I was holding it on a painful place on my breast for a while. It did make me feel better.
I happened to get well in about three days without doctors help. Was so happy and couldn’t believe my luck.
How to avoid mastitis?
Unfortunately you can get mastitis more than once. Daniella is nearly five months now and during that time I felt mastitis starting for at least 5 times. However, it has never got as bad as first time. It is because I know howto avoid it now. When I start feeling that one of my breasts is getting sore, I immediately start treatments like last time, especially getting milk out as often as possible. It does help a lot. Try and see it yourself! 🙂
This is probably one the best our family recipes! We love it, our friends loved it, everyone loved it! (At least they said they did.) The preparation is extremely easy. The only one thing you have to have – enough time for roasting. Thats all. You will need:
Large peace of pork – could be shoulder, could be leg, we tried both and both were DELICIOUS!
2-3 garlic cloves
3 tablespoons of olive oil
1. Dry the skin with kitchen paper if you want to have nice and crispy crackling.
2. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees
3. Score the skin. Even if it’s already scored, I like to make it deeper – we will need nice pockets to put garlic and rosemary. 🙂
4. Oil the skin with olive oil thoroughly. This will help salt to stick to the skin.
5. Sprinkle sea salt generously all over the skin.
6. Insert small slices of garlic and herbs in between the scores.
7. Place your pork in the oven and leave it for 30 minutes. Then lover the temperature to 190 degrees and continue rosting.
8. After the meet is cooked leave it for 15-20 minutes to rest.
- Before preparing your meet take it out of the fridge and leave it in a room temperature for at least one hour or more. Meat will be tender and juicy then.
- To check if your meet is ready insert a knife in the thickest part of the meet and check a colour of the juice. If the colour is clear, your meet is ready. If not, continue cooking till the juice is clear.
- Normally the cooking time will be written on the package when buying meet. I recommend to check if it is ready half an hour before recommended time to make sure you don’t overcook.
Serve it with potatoes, gravy and selection of vegetables. ENJOY!
